Quand je travaillais sur la chauve-souris aux ailes d’or sur les bords du lac Baringo, au Kenya, j’étais souvent accompagné par une famille d’hippopotames pendant mes prises de vue, de jour comme de nuit…
Hippopotamus amphibius
The photo was taken on the Baringo lake’s shore (Kenya). Every evening, I approached the shore at twilight. I waited Hippo leave the water.

Vulnerable in the Red List.
The photo was taken on the Baringo lake’s shore (Kenya). Every morning, I approached the shore when it was still night. I waited for the first day’s light to make photos. An imposing silhouette stood out in front of the lake’s reflexions, it was hippo on its way to the water. Vulnerable in the Red List.

The photo was taken on the Baringo lake’s shore. Every morning, I approached the shore when it was still night. I waited for the first day’s light to make photos. The sky was cloudy, the sun had not risen yet and the light was beautiful. I approached the group of hippos softly and I made many photos. Once, an aigrette came walking on the shore of the lake and I had an impression that hippos were bird watching.
Hippopotamus amphibius
The photo was taken on a moon full night. Hippos get out in going a group to graze by the lake. I followed the group discreetly to make some pictures with long exposure. I had a Nikon D3 with just a 50 mm 1.8 and a tripod. Focusing was difficult in the darkness and as it was necessary to be quick enough to fix hippos while reening stars required a long exposure.
